If you believe most people, they would have you believe that eating late at night will hinder fat loss.

The question has been asked many times and given many different answers.

The latest studies actually show, eating late into the night before rest, appears to increase energy expenditure the following morning.

In the study, conducted at Department of Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences, Institute of Sports Science and Medicine, The Florida State University,Madzima TA, Panton LB et al, gave college age men whey protein, 38g maltodextrin, 38g casein protein and 38g of a placebo were given before bed on four separate occasions.

All three real food sources were found to increase energy expenditure the next morning, where as the placebo was found to have zero effect.

This means a meal before bed can actually help weight loss, and not actually hinder your fat losses.

Their conclusion?  Night-time consumption of protein or carbohydrate results in increased morning resting energy expenditure in active college-aged men.
