In a recent study from the University Of Western Sydney Australia it was found that volume training causes muscle activation decreasing as sets continued and then activation plateauing.

For the first three sets of Bulgarian Split Squats, reps and activation decreased and then leveled off.

The researchers concluded that repeating high volume training when fatigued is of little benefit because muscle tension is less and form breaks down.
