How did you get started with fitness and bodybuilding? What were the defining moments that have guided you towards the fitness and bodybuilding lifestyle?
Since childhood, I have always been quite active with martial arts, football etc. but after suffering a bout of depression I found myself homeless and living a sedentary life for quite some time.
After a couple of years I found myself back in my home town of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire where I joined Ironworks Gym and under the guidance of Martin Green started training for the strongman events that he held at the gym twice a year.
After placing last at all the events I entered I decided to make the switch to bodybuilding.
This all started when my former training partner and I took part in a charity Body Transformation Competition to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care, where I won the special award presented by Mr Gym Credible himself.
Very shortly after this I took part in the bodybuilding show, again hosted by Martin Green & Ironworks Gym.
That was it! I was hooked and well and truly had the bodybuilding bug.
I started to build some good muscle using my own diet and training but when I hired Team Wild for my cut I never imagined it was possible for me to get into such great shape.
Where does your motivation and inspiration come from? What keeps you going to push harder?
My motivation comes from several places:
1) My daughter, one reason I decided to get in shape is because I couldn’t even carry my daughter up to bed without getting out of breath. Also to keep up with a 2 year old you need to be fit, right?
2) Seeing other Team Wild athletes and their results just inspired me so much to choose them to help me to get into the greatest shape of my life. Thank you Team Wild.
3) I have to say God for for giving me the strength to get away from life in the gutter.
4) THE HATERS! I personally love it when someone says I can’t do something!
What keeps me going is not wanting to return to my former, sedentary, way of life. My daughter needs her daddy to be fit and healthy also.
What workout routine has worked best for you?
I have tried everything from heavy duty hit to dtp and everything in between.
I have found that personalization works great for me. After joining Team Wild they had me doing periodization workouts and the results are amazing! For those that don’t know what this is, you basically start with lower reps with a heavier weight one week followed by higher reps with a slightly lighter weight the following week. The one exception for me was legs!
What is your favorite muscle group to train?
I personally don’t have a favorite muscle part as i just love training and the pump you get from it feels so damn amazing.
Even on leg day.
What is your approach to nutrition?
Quite simply “eat for function, not for taste”
Also you have to be consistent and prepared. If you fail to prepare you better be prepared to fail!
What is your supplementation like?
Supplement-wise I use:
Whey protein
Creatine
Peptopro
HBCD
Vitamin C
Multi vitamins
Vitamin B complex
Also when I’m cutting I’ll use a good quality fat burner before cardio.
What is your cardio routine like? Do you prefer HIIT or SSCV?
I prefer to do my cardio in the morning in a semi fasted state (after a black coffee and fat burner).
I have had a knee injury so just returned to doing cardio for 20 minutes, 6 days a week at a heart rate of 130-140 BPM.
What are your future Bodybuilding/ Fitness goals?
My future goals are to get on stage at a bodybuilding show.
Long term is to qualify for a national final and the shot at a pro card.
What advice and tips would you give to new beginners as well as well established competitors?
I have learnt so much over my time in the gym so have multiple pieces of advice.
1) Make sure your nutrition for your specific goal is on point BEFORE you even set foot in the gym “You cannot out train a bad diet”
2) Master the basics! Posture and good form are the key to a long and injury free career in this sport. I learnt this the hard way and would like to prevent as many people as possible from going through the same thing.
3) Consistency! Rome wasn’t built in a day! You’ve made the hardest step by getting off the sofa and into the gym now keep going and keep on track with your diet and the results WILL come.
4) If you want to get into great shape but not sure how then I suggest hiring a GOOD coach who actually has your best interest at heart! Team Wild are an excellent example of this. Their dedication to their athletes is second to none!
I would just like to thank you both for the support and help you have given me this far and I hope you don’t mind me considering you as friends and family in iron.
Thank you!
