In the supplement industry, people fall over themselves to bring you the latest and greatest ways of increasing your lifting power and increase your workout prowess. It seems some of this money may be well spent because of one chemical in them!
Surely its not that simple?
In 2011 and 2012, each year consumers spent around £1,475,916,200 on preworkout products around the world (yes, £1.4 billion, $2.2 billion USD!). It appears that one chemical most contain is actual worthy of its inclusion. Caffeine!
So what does it do?
Caffeine has been found to increase power out put in both the bench press and squatting when shifting weight between 10% and 100% of maximum capacity.
Does it do anything else?
Yes, other researchers have found it increases calcium output from muscle which actually increases maximum contractile tension they can give.
