Often you hear people say that keto is a strength killer, is this true?
Read on…
Its often said, keto diets kills strength – why?
People guess that no carbs means less glycogen and thus energy and so makes you weaker.
So what did this study say? Does it back what people say up?
Actually a recent study showed this wasn’t the case! They tested a group of elite gymnasts (some of the hardest trained people in the world) in terms of body composition, strength and various performance aspects for 30 days. They compared this to the same gymnasts on their normal diet.
Surprisingly, they were able to maintain the same performance capability and no significant changes in strength. Furthermore body fat levels dropped improving body composition whilst preserving lean mass, often whilst training 30 hours a week.
What did they conclude?
That strength is not significantly effected by a keto, low carb diet. However studies of longer than 30 days are needed.
