Great Workout!

Want to get more out of every last workout you do in the week? If so, read on. We’ve pulled together some smart tips for maximizing your energy spend, so you get better results. Let’s get started right away.

Aim to fail

First of all, if you are walking away from your workouts with a spring in your step, you aren’t doing it right. You have to push yourself to your muscular limits if you want to achieve results. Keep a close eye on your form, and only stop pushing yourself when your muscles simply can’t keep that form. Training to the point of muscle failure will improve your body’s ability to build lean muscle, and help you burn off fat.

Keep records

We can’t stress enough how important it is to count while you are working out. Keep track of every exercise you do, and the number of repetitions you can get through in a set amount of time. Not only will it give you a visual record from which to push yourself, but you’ll also have a much better idea of how much you are progressing.

Stay off the machines

You are better off with free weights – or even your body weight – than you are with gym equipment. These machines will help you build strength, but they also encourage you only to use a particular set of muscles. Free weights and bodyweight exercises are different. You will find you use a far greater range of muscles, which increases the number of calories you burn.

Give yourself some zip

Caffeine can help give you that extra energy you need to push yourself further. A cup of black coffee or a couple of caffeine tablets will do the trick. You can also try energy drinks, although some should be avoided due to the vast amount of sugars they contain. Only use recommended energy drinks for athletes if you decide to go down this route. If you do want sugar, stick to basic fruits like oranges and apples.

More work, less time

Stop spending an hour at a time doing gentle exercise – it’s not doing you much good. Switch your routines to shorter sessions but put a lot more work into them. Intense exercise programs give you the best results by far.

Mix up cardio and strength

Splitting your cardio and strength sessions? Mix it up a little and you should see much better results. Skipping or 30-second sprints between weights will boost your metabolism and keep your muscles working at the same time.

Find a friend

If you have someone with you when working out, it can give you encouragement, Or, if you have a different mindset, it can make you more competitive. Even if you don’t have a workout partner, social support throughout your fitness plan can help you achieve remarkable results. So, don’t feel sorry for posting your achievements on social media – it’s doing you a lot of good!
