If you’ve started getting a little bored of the home gym you were so excited about a couple of months ago, don’t worry. There are some simple, practical ways you can get your motivation back. It’s even harder working out in the summer heat, so hang in there! Stick with it and the results will be worth it. Here are five fitness tips to help you get your motivation back.

1. Rethink your goals

Any fitness instructor or trainer will tell you that it’s good to have goals. Perhaps you made a few earlier this year and haven’t really got round to achieving them. That’s ok, but maybe it’s time to rethink those goals. They can be as small as you like, but make them specific. 

Set a minimum reps target for your HIIT workout per day for example. Or if you want to work in the long-term you could do a sponsored solo activity like long-distance running. Avoid setting unrealistic goals and go for baby steps. 

2. Get some new equipment

It’s a quick fix but sometimes a little retail therapy does work. How about some new workout clothes? Have a look online for a wide collection of tracksuits. You might feel more motivated knowing you’ve spent the money and treated yourself.

3. Work out in short bursts

If you’re not feeling motivated due to time constraints, plan shorter, more intense workouts. It’s easier to see the end in sight and you won’t have any excuses. There are plenty of fitness apps and workout videos online loaded with daily workouts that aren’t longer than 30 mins. 

Make sure you make time to exercise and try to stick to a realistic routine. This will help you to get into a rhythm and not always feel like it’s a chore. 

4. Get a workout buddy

Even if you work out remotely, you can still do it with a buddy. Many fitness apps have a social aspect to them, or instead, you can set a goal to work towards together. Working out with a buddy is a lot more fun and motivating. You can help each other. 

If you don’t have any one particular in mind, there are plenty of ways you can find a workout buddy. You could even go out with your dog as they need exercise too. 

5. Put together a workout playlist

Music can really make the time go, especially if you’re a runner or weight training. Put together a motivational playlist to really psych you up to push for the burn. Often, motivating yourself to start a workout is the hard part. 

Keep focussing on the end goal, a little bit of exercise does go a long way. You must be able to find the time to squeeze in a quick workout here and there. You’ll feel healthier and happier in no time.
