Andrea, how did you get started with fitness & bodybuilding?
After 10 years as a judo competitor I turned to bodybuilding, mainly because I did not have a good proportionate body. My legs and abs were great, but my arms and shoulders were weak. So I decided to change that.
What were the defining moments that have guided you towards the fitness & bodybuilding lifestyle?
I was a changing my work and time I spent at work. I needed to take off some of the pressure so I started bodybuilding, but I never believed I will be a competitor.
Where does your motivation and inspiration stem from?
My heroes are Warren, Fuxx, Lewis, and and a lot Russian athletes, Lesukov first.
What keeps you going to push harder?
When you arrive on stage, standing in front of 1000 people and show your body – it is a feeling like no other. Standing up there alone, showing all your work, pain and suffering at the gym. All this has carried me on.
What workout routine has worked best for you?
I am trained by Armando Defant, one of best and greatest Italian bodybuilders ever, so I do all he recommends or suggests. Usually I train 5 or 7 days a week, only one muscle a day or per session – till I die.
What is your favourite muscle group to train?
I like training pectorals, arms and back.
What is your approach to nutrition?
During off-season I eat clean till Sunday. Sundays I eat everything I wish. When I start competition preparations I eat clean. Off-season 6000-7000 calories day, during competition preparations my calorie intake goes down.
What is your supplementation like?
I use very few preworkouts, high dosage arginine – creatine, mass gainers in off season, vitamins, etc.
What is your cardio routine like? Do you prefer to use HIIT or SSCV?
Usually I start cardio 20 week before competition. I do cardio 3 times a week, heart rate up to 140 beats per minute.
What are your future bodybuilding / fitness goals?
I will compete at the National WABBA World in May 2016.
This year I took 6th place at Nationals and 7th at the World Championships.
I did better last year, but I’m not totally satisfied. I will need more mass and weight. Last year I competed at 80,3 kg, this year more solid at 83kg. My next aim is 85-86 kg.
What advice and tips would you give to new beginners as well as well-established competitors?
Work hard, with passion and never fall down, but most importantly put your goal above anything else.
You can chose a competition, a desired body mass, low bodyfat, all you want – but when you set a goal live for it from Monday to Sunday, from morning to night – during work day and on holiday.
When I go on holiday I choose a hotel with a gym. I go train at 6 o’clock, pumped like beasts as I am, then I go with my family to visit the resort or the country.
Last important thing: eat! eat! eat!
Seeya!
Thank you!
