One aspect that people have regularly argued over is how long should wait between sets.

Well a 2017 meta study suggests that…

 

…favour by a few percentages points is resting 60 seconds or more is most beneficial for muscle hypertrophy.   They theorize this is because it allows you to rest a little longer and so lift a little heavier.

They did also stated that longer term lifters benefited most from longer rests between sets.  New gym users were found to have similar muscle growth (hypertrophy) regardless of time rested.
